Back to ETD

1. Can I submit paper copies instead of an ETD?

Yes. The University Graduate School will accept paper copies instead of electronic theses and dissertations. In fact, if you are submitting an ETD you are still required to submit one paper copy to the University Graduate School.

2. If we submit electronically, do I have to pay any “fees?”

No, you do not have to pay any fees if you submit an ETD.

3. I have already graduated. May I submit an ETD version of my work?

Yes. Alumni may submit ETD versions of their theses or dissertations. Your ETD must pass the regular review and have the proper release forms signed before we will be able to make it available electronically.

4. Where do I find specifications on submission format: margins, point sizes, writing style, etc.?

Please see the University Graduate School Guidelines for ETD creation http://etd.fiu.edu/ and don’t forget to review the Regulations for Thesis and Dissertation Preparation Manual.

5. Do I still need to get signatures on the approval page?

Yes, you need to get the appropriate signatures on the approval page (page ii). In addition, if you are submitting an ETD you are required to complete an “Approval Form” with the required signatures. Please see http://etd.fiu.edu/.

6. How does Bell & Howell get their copy for filming and copyrighting?

When you pay your fees to the Cashier’s Office and bring the receipt to the University Graduate School, the University Graduate School sends Bell & Howell (former UMI) a signed title page and the Bell & Howell agreement form.  Bell & Howell, then:

You get a 10% commission when they sell copies of your dissertation, paid on the "sevens" (7, 17, 27, ...).
