The FIU Libraries

The FIU Libraries encompass six public facility libraries, the Green Library, Hubert Library, and Engineering Library Service Center are under the direction of the Dean of University Libraries, other libraries/centers are overseen by their corresponding schools or organizations.


steven j. and dorothea green library (gl)

Located at the Modesto A. Maidique Campus (MMC), the Green Library is FIU's main library, and one of the largest library buildings in the Southeastern United States.  Originally designed by architect David M. Harper in 1973 and expanded to its current 8 floors by the architecture firm M. C. Harry & Associates, Inc. in the early 1990s.  Available to students are: group study rooms, music and film collections, government document collections, reference materials, graphic novels, laptops/iPads/eReaders, and much more!

    Open-concept computer lab, group study areas, print/copy/scan stations, and device checkout area; Desktop computers (both Mac & PC) offer: Internet access, Microsoft Office Suite, SPSS, Datastream, Respondus Lock-down Browser, Final Cut Pro, & select CD-ROM/local databases.  Also available are book/document scanners, CD/DVD burners, Macromedia software (Flash, Dreamweaver), Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection, & Media Production/Editing Rooms.
  • gis center | located GL 2nd fl.
    The Geographic Information Systems Center supports and facilitates the teaching and research activities of the FIU community in the areas of GIS, remote sensing, geospatial web visualization, and geospatial data management
  • special collections & university archives | located GL 4th fl.
    Special Collections works to acquire and preserve rare, unique, and out-of-print materials which support the research needs of faculty and students.  It also serves as the archive/depository for official records relating to the founding, development, and plans for FIU.
  • lacic (Latin American Caribbean Information Center) | located GL 2nd fl.
    Computer and research lab supporting Latin American & Caribbean Studies Research
  • government documents | located GL 2nd fl.
    state, federal, and international documents collections; access to the microfiche collections


glenn hubert library (hl)

Located at the Biscayne Bay Campus, previously known as the Biscayne Bay Campus Library. This 3-story library serves the needs of BBC and the Colleges, Departments, and programs there; most services offered at GL are also offered at HL.

Highlights include:

    teaching and research facility supporting the GIS needs of BBC community
  • ask center | located HL 2nd  fl.
    ASK (Academic Skills Knowledge) Center offers a one-stop support center for research – featuring Reference Librarians and library staff, Writing Center help, and IT support; Also available are small film viewing stations and collaborative study areas; Desktop computers (both Mac & PC) offer: Internet access, Microsoft Office Suite, Open Office, Respondus Lock-down Browser, SecondLife, SPSS, Datastream, Final Cut Pro, & select CD-ROM/local databases.  Also available are book/document scanners, CD/DVD burners, Macromedia software (Flash, Dreamweaver), Adobe Live Cycle Designer, Acrobat Distiller, the Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection, and some programming software (DPS App Builder, NetBeans, XCode)


wolfsonian library

Located on South Beach, Miami Beach, the Wolfsonian Library is part of the Wolfsonian Museum.  The Library is home to a collection of approximately sixty thousand rare and reference books, hundreds of periodical titles, and tens of thousands of ephemeral items, as well as special collections and archives. The Library’s primary focus is that of art, architecture, and design and their role in shaping perceptions of the modern world. The Library’s extensive ephemera holdings include vintage postcards, advertisements, brochures, calendars, leaflets, labels, sheet music covers, schedules, matchbook covers, and a variety of other formats.  The library serves mostly as a research library with an extensive collection of primary sources. For students, prior approval from the staff is needed to enter the library.

Located at FIU’s Engineering Center.  ELS facilities include: Presentation/Group Study Rooms; A focused collection of print reference materials and a limited collection of current print journals; Open Study Room designed for comfort and collaboration or individual study; Engineering Reference materials and laptops are available for check-out.

Located at MMC, the FIU Law Library is a research center designed to support the curriculum, teaching and scholarly work of the College’s faculty, students and staff.  The core print collection is comprised of U.S. federal and state legal materials, publications related to foreign and international law, and a rapidly growing collection of Latin American legal materials. The Library’s resources also include a wide variety of specialized legal databases, including access to thousands of e-books and digitized legal treatises. The Library offers FIU Law students study rooms, study carrels, computer workstations, a computer lab, and wireless Internet access. All Library users have access to the Library’s electronic resources, including the web-based library catalog, subscription databases, and selected Web resources.  Use of the Law Library is reserved for members of the College of Law community and persons using Law Library resources to conduct legal research. During Reading and Exam periods, access is restricted to FIU Law students, faculty and staff.

Located at MMC on the 3rd floor of the Green Library, the College of Medicine Library’s mission is to advance the teaching and learning, discovery and healthcare programs at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, and to promote the health of the South Florida community.  The Medical Library is committed to the mission of the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Florida International University, to provide quality, affordable medical education and to educate physicians who are culturally sensitive to South Florida's diverse demographics.  The majority of the Library’s collections are available online/electronically and are available to all the FIU community.  Additionally, the Library offers student study areas and presentation rooms.
